Top 4 Ways to Keep Fit This Summer
By Move Dance on 17th Aug 2022
Everybody deserves a break, for dancers the summer holidays are the perfect opportunity to rest and recharge their bodies. However, after such a long time off going back to school, college or rehearsals can be a bit daunting. This is why we have come up with our top 4 ways to help maintain your strength and technique over summer!
1. Pilates
Pilates is perfect for dancers, it improves your core stability, posture, and flexibility. A great alternative to the gym, it creates long and lean muscles (no wonder it's so popular with ballerinas). Plus you can do Pilates anywhere, all you need is your matt and enough space and you are good to go!

2. Barre at home
Bring the ballet studio to you. As you might know from lockdown, turning your kitchen into a dance studio is not as easy as you think. Despite this, there are many ways you can get creative and find the space. For example, a chair is an excellent alternative for a ballet barre!
Take a look at an example barre/barre fitness class, perfect for helping maintain that important technique in the comfort of your own home.
3.Summer schools
Of course, there's no better way to keep up with your dance technique than dancing. There are many amazing summer schools in the UK for all different dance genres. Summer camps are a great experience and a fantastic way to improve performance and dance skills.

4.Swimming
Swimming is known as one of the best forms of exercise, therefore it is an ideal way to stay in shape this summer. Exercise your whole body with some lengths or even try a bit of ballet in the water. If you can get to a gym with a pool then definitely take advantage!
Don't stress if you don't have access to a pool, there are lots of public outdoor lidos dotted all over the UK!
